Jesse Selph, 87, Vero Beach

Jesse Selph, 87, died Dec. 2, 2012, at the Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

He was born in Georgia and lived in Vero Beach for 66 years, coming from his birth state.

He was with the Vero Beach Fire and Police Departments for 34 years before retiring as a captain with the Police Department in 1987.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Vero Beach.

He was a charter and life member of the Fraternal Order Police Lodge 69 in Vero Beach and a member of the Vero Beach Masonic Lodge 250 F&AM and a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite Valley of Lake Worth.

He served on the Police Academy Advisory Board of Indian River State College, Vero Beach Safety Council and the board of directors for the Babe Ruth League and Boys Baseball.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Charlotte Selph, of Vero Beach; sons, Ronald Selph and Joel Selph, both of Vero Beach; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church General Fund, 2206 16th Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 8 with a service at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Vero Beach with the Rev. Derrick West officiating.
