VERO BEACH — The Indian River Genealogical Society invites the public to its Dec. 11 general meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m. in the large first floor conference room of the Indian River County Main Library, 1600 21st St. in Vero Beach.
Following the business meeting where new officers will be elected and installed, the Swedish GIG (genealogy interest group) will provide an array of delicious holiday treats made from family recipes.
Then we’ll learn about the “real” Florida as Steve Hayes, founder and owner of Stumpknocker Airboat Tours, entertains members and guests with a slide presentation and tales of growing up, fishing, hunting, and leading tours in the marshes west of Vero Beach.
In 2008, Mr. Hayes retired after a 45-year career with the Indian River County Fire District to operate Stumpknocker Tours full-time.
“Retirement gave me the opportunity to do what I really enjoy doing; taking people to the marsh, showing them the sights, telling the stories, and watching them enjoy the experience,” explained Hayes.
For an enjoyable, educational experience, you’re invited to join the IRGS for this fun-filled meeting. Along with Swedish treats, gator photos, and tall tales, you’re also guaranteed to learn about upcoming opportunities to improve your genealogy research skills.
