SEBASTIAN — On Nov. 17, the Sebastian Elks Lodge honored veterans with a free dinner and a “USO show.”
For the occasion, the hall was sold out and was decorated extensively in red, white, and blue. The Sea Scouts Honor Guard presented the colors, and the Sebastian River High School Band played the Star Spangled Banner.
The band also played the theme song of each branch of the military. The veterans stood, cheered, and sang for their respective branch as each song was played.
After this rousing music, the honored guests were treated to a delicious pot roast dinner served by the Navy JROTC and Boy Scouts.
Madeline Walsh, the Exalted Ruler of the lodge, thanked the veterans for their service and thanked our current military men and women and asked that we keep our veterans and veterans-to-be in our prayers
After dinner, Debbi Hanford and her ‘troop’ of singers put on a wonderful USO show. They sang songs that were popular during each wartime era.
This brought back many memories to the vets as they sang along and danced.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and left singing or humming a song that touched their hearts.
