VERO BEACH — Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County recently announced that The Ashdown Shambo Wealth Management Group – Merrill Lynch would be the presenting sponsor of the nonprofit organization’s 30th anniversary celebration, which is slated for Dec. 2.
“As a group, we choose to support Alzheimer & Parkinson Association because the clients that they serve are so close to our hearts,” explained Jeremy Schwibner, CSNA, a Financial Advisor at The Ashdown Shambo Wealth Management Group – Merrill Lynch.
“As estate planners, we build relationships with families to help them plan for the future and for unforeseen health issues that may arise, and many of our clients are affected by these neurological disorders,” added Schwibner.
Schwibner chose to become involved with Alzheimer & Parkinson Association due to his early experiences working in senior living communities, where he learned first-hand the need for support groups, social respite programs, and enrichment activities, much like the ones provided by the association.
Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County was founded in 1982 by two volunteers who faced the many challenges that other families face when dealing with a loved one afflicted by Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s diseases.
Their need to support one another was the foundation of the organization’s programs, which have grown to become the premiere resource in Indian River County for professionals, caregivers, families, and those living with disorders affecting memory and motion.
Based on national statistics, it is estimated that over 5,000 residents in Indian River County are afflicted by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. In addition, the organization also serves those with essential tremors, stroke, autism, lewy bodies, and other neurological diseases and disorders.
The Ashdown Shambo Wealth Management Group – Merrill Lynch, located at 660 Beachland Blvd., Ste. 101, in Vero Beach, combines financial experience with intimate knowledge of each client’s priorities to plan, protect, and help fulfill their vision of the future.
Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County is not an affiliate of a national organization. It is an independent, nonprofit organization that is 100 percent supported through generous donations derived from grants, events, individuals, and businesses to support its programs.
Local programs that are provided to area residents include support groups, a lending library resource center, monthly program meetings, caregiver training, Project Lifesaver tracking bracelets, social respite programs, an activity center, weekly exercise classes, and memory screening.
Nearly 4,100 participated in Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County programs in 2011.
