Volunteers needed to help scrub-jays

SEBASTIAN — In order to improve the scrub habitat and help the scrub-jays survive, pine trees need to be cut down on Bristol/Barber property in Sebastian.

If anyone has any time to help on the following days, it would be greatly appreciated. If you have a saw, please bring it. If cutting down trees isn’t your thing, hauling them to a central area could be done instead.

INEOS will be picking them up to generate electricity and clean fuel. So now Scrub-Jays are helping to create clean fuel.

You and the public can take home the smaller pines for Christmas trees.

The work day will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following days:

Friday, Nov. 23; Saturday, Nov. 24; Sunday, Nov. 25

Friday, Nov. 30; Saturday, Dec. 1; Sunday, Dec. 2

Friday, Dec. 7; Saturday, Dec. 8; Sunday, Dec. 9

Friday, Dec. 14; Saturday, Dec. 15; Sunday, Dec. 16

There are lots of trees to get rid of and work won’t be done until they’re gone. Most of the trees will be small and easy to handle.

If someone wants to help and would like to come on a different day, please let me know. Or, just stop by and pick up a Christmas tree.

The property’s located in Sebastian on Barber St., about 1/2 mile west of US 1, across from “Park Place.”
