Healthy Families IRC receives awards at conference

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Healthy Families IRC is a program of the IRC Healthy Start Coalition that oversees home visitations that encourage positive parent/child interaction and provides community resources and activities for parents and children.

At a recent 2012 Healthy Families Florida Leadership Conference, the Healthy Families IRC brought home two awards for the 2011- 2012 fiscal year.

One award was presented to Rosio Hurtado, Family Support Worker Supervisor, and Toni McDaniel, Program Manager, for providing consistent achievement of outcomes and commitment to high standards of excellence.

Ms. McDaniel also collected an award for 10 years of dedicated service to the IRC organization.

The mission of the Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition is to establish a system that guarantees all women access to prenatal care and all infants access to services that promote normal growth and development.

Community-wide issues the coalition and its five funded programs are addressing across the board are reducing the percentage of women who report smoking during pregnancy, increasing the percentage of women entering prenatal care in their first trimester, and decrease the percentage of repeat births to teens.
