Thomas Edward McDevitt, 55, Vero Beach

Thomas Edward McDevitt, 55, died Nov. 16, 2012, at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

He was born in Brighton, Mass., and lived in Vero Beach for 25 years, coming from Massachusetts.

He worked as a comptroller in the firearms and citrus industries for 20 years.

He was a volunteer for the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County, and was inducted as an honorary board member for his service.

He was a member of the Humane Society’s Disaster Response Team, and traveled to other states rescuing animals displaced by natural disasters.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Mary Elizabeth McDevitt; children, Matilda, Mason and Merlin; sisters, Lorraine Frances Edwards, of Pembroke, Mass., Catherine M. Brooks, of South Weymouth, Mass., and Eugenia T. Faucette, of Summerville, S.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene J. and Mary E. McDevitt; and sister, Mary Elizabeth McDevitt.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 19, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach.

Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach.
