New piano/voice instructor at Academy for the Performing Arts

VERO BEACH — A warm welcome has been given to Emily Kopp as a new instructor at the Academy for the Performing Arts, who will be teaching piano and voice lessons.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in music education from The Ohio State University and 16 years music teaching experience both in the public schools and music studio settings. She has worked with students of all ages from preschool through adult.

Mrs. Kopp works as the preschool/cherub choir director and soprano section leader of the Chancel Choir for Community Church of Vero Beach, as well as teaching at the Imagine school. Since arriving in Vero Beach, Emily has joined the Community Chorus and Ensemble Nautilus, a new professional vocal ensemble.

Emily and her family have recently relocated to the Vero Beach community from Columbus, Ohio. Tony, her husband, is the new art teacher at Indian River Charter High School, and Gabriel, their son, is a 3rd grade student.

Emily is available for lessons now for private and group violin classes at the Academy. Contact our office or visit our website for more information.

“Studying music is a great way to enhance a student’s educational and life skills. Reports from music education programs have shown that the study of music improves social skills, school attendance, and academic achievement.

In particular, it has been shown that piano lessons improve performance in math, and families in these studies have reported a notable increase in the child’’s self-discipline.

“Students who show music aptitude and who have participated in musical activities in the community quite often get a second look when submitting an application for college entrance. It can be the difference between being put in the pile with all the other applicants or being set aside for consideration for entrance to the school of the student’’s choice,”” explained Harriet Yemm, Executive Director of the Academy.

The Academy for the Performing Arts is a non profit music school in Vero Beach providing private and group lessons in violin, piano, jazz piano, voice, guitar, percussion, brass, and woodwinds.

The Music for Youth Scholarship Program is funded by contributors in the community with an upcoming Christmas is Coming! Concert fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m.
