VERO BEACH — Save the Chimps, the world’s largest sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees, is hosting its fourth annual Chimps Kitchen Fundraiser to benefit the chimps living in its permanent sanctuary located in Fort Pierce. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at Cobalt at the Vero Beach Resort and Spa.
Enjoy live music and a beautiful oceanfront view, chimp-inspired cocktails such as the Banana Martini and delicious vegetarian hors d’oeuvres prepared by local chefs from Vero Beach’s best restaurants – Cobalt, Culinary Capers, Riverside Café, Frosting, Costa d’Este and Windsor. There will also be a silent auction, including artwork painted by special needs chimps, and a raffle.
Tickets are $75.
The majority of the 269 chimpanzees at Save the Chimps roam throughout twelve 3.5-acre “islands in the sun,” that consist of trees, hills, climbing structures and a hurricane proof building for shelter. However, these special needs chimpanzees have suffered physical or emotional damage so severe that it makes it impossible for them to live in a large family group on one of the islands.
To accommodate chimpanzees with special needs, Save the Chimps is converting an existing building into a special needs facility with connecting outdoor enclosures that will house these traumatized animals and others with severe medical conditions.
The special needs facility will help them thrive in outdoor enclosures with climbing structures and swings, the warm sun on their backs and grass beneath their feet.
