VERO BEACH — We invite you to have your name or your company’s name promoted at our 2012 Family Holiday Fest scheduled for Saturday, December 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Riverside Park in Vero Beach.
We are planning to have a fun-filled day for families to help kick off the holiday season. Bounce houses, face painting, “build a tree” workshops, pictures with Santa, music, dancing, and caroling are just a few of the fun activities we are planning.
It’s going to be FunSational.
Literacy Services of Indian River County, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 agency and a United Way partner. We have been in existence since 1971 and have helped thousands of local adults improve their reading skills.
There is always a waiting list of adults desiring to improve their reading and communication skills.
“I just read a story for the first time. Until now, I had no reason to be proud of myself,” one of our students recently said.
“Because I can now read, I dream that my child will go to college. Before, I never gave a thought as to whether she would even finish high school,” another student said.
We served over 250 students last year. Our adult students have achieved personal goals such as advancing a reading level, obtaining citizenship, voting for the first time, obtaining a driver’s license, improving a job situation, or helping their children with schoolwork.
Yet, we still have a waiting list of students desiring our services. To serve them, we need more resources.
A mother’s reading skill is the greatest determinant of her children’s future academic success, outweighing factors such as neighborhood and family income. This is why we exist.
Yet precious few individuals or entities financially support literacy programs that focus on the literacy skills of adults.
Please become a sponsor and help us make this event successful.
All proceeds will be used to further the mission of Literacy Services of Indian River County.
