VERO BEACH — The Education Foundation of Indian River County (EF-IRC) is pleased to celebrate 21 years of service to the students and teachers of our community.
A special event, “School House Rock!,” is planned for November 16 at the Moorings Club. This “funraiser” will advance the EF-IRC’s mission of enriching and enhancing educational opportunities for all students and teachers in Indian River County.
All proceeds will be used to fulfill unmet funding needs of our local schools and to support the various programs administered by the independent non-profit: the Indian River Regional Science & Engineering Fair, Sneaker Exchange, School Supply Fund, Vision for Reading, Great Ideas Grants, and Professional Development initiatives.
The inspiration for the event comes from the American interstitial programming series of animated musical educational short films that aired during the Saturday morning children’s programming on the U.S. television network ABC.
The topics covered included grammar, science, economics, history, mathematics, and civics. The series’ original run lasted from 1973 to 1985 and was later revived with both old and new episodes airing from 1993 to 1999.
Event Co-Chair Joanne Quaile explained why this theme is relevant to education today.
“The series that inspired this fundraiser utilized what was engaging to children at the time. Today the Education Foundation is working hard to provide the latest technology and resources to prepare children to be leaders in the 21st century,” Quaile said.
Joanne is joined by Co-Chair Adrian J.R. Smith and the following committee members: Pat Donovan, Gail Kinney, Patrice Stowe, and Jennifer Watson.
“School House Rock!” will feature a cocktail hour, full-course seated dinner, live auction, and dancing to the popular band “Bus Stop.”
