Gifford Alternative School teacher arrested on drug charge

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 40-year-old teacher from Sebastian was arrested Tuesday, accused of purchasing $300 worth of marijuana at a Burger King parking lot near County Road 510 and US 1.

William Howle, a teacher at the Gifford Alternative School told police that he normally purchases pot once a month, according to the arrest report.

He was arrested after an informant called the Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning and said a man named Bill had just asked him where he could score some marijuana. The informant then called authorities and passed along the phone number and the man’s name.

An undercover agent then contacted the man and made arrangements to meet in the parking lot of the Burger King, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Once there, Howle was told to get into the undercover agent’s car, where the transaction took place.

Reports say Howle was arrested as he exited the car.

Howle’s employment status with the Indian River County School District was not immediately known following his arrest.
