Margaret “Maggie” Dowell Cochran Kearney, 93, Vero Beach

Margaret “Maggie” Dowell Cochran Kearney, 93, of Vero Beach died Oct. 3 at Indian River Estates.

She was born in Washington, D.C., and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 2006, coming from McLean, Va.

She graduated from Western High School in Washington and attended Sweet Briar College where she graduated in 1940 and spent her junior year abroad at the University of Paris, Sorbonne.

She taught French in elementary school, worked as a bookkeeper for her father’s business.

She was a longtime member of Civitan of Tyson’s Corner, Va., the Woman’s Club of McLean, Va., McLean Postcomers, and Post Cana of Northern Virginia.

She was a member of the Little Falls Presbyterian Church, Arlington, Va. for more than 45 years.

Survivors include her sister, Josephine Hinson, of Springfield, Va.; sons, John Jeffress Cochran, of Venice, Stephen Laurie Cochran, of Chattanooga, Tenn., David Dowell Cochran, of Mechanicsville, Va., and Douglas Brooks Cochran, of Vero Beach; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Pettus Cochran; and second husband, Maynard S. Kearney.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at The Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd Street, followed by a reception at the church.

Private interment in Arlington National Cemetery will occur at a later date.

Arrangements are by Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.
