Gregory Alan Whitton, 48, Vero Beach

Gregory Alan Whitton, 48, of Vero Beach died Oct. 4, 2012, at Indian River Medical Center.

He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 35 years, coming from New York.

He retired from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office after 20 years of service as a deputy.

He then became a process server for the Indian River County Courthouse, Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Georgianna Shepke-Whitton; sons, Geoffrey Whitton, of Palm Bay and Christopher Shepke, of Vero Beach; daughter, Heather Shepke, of Orlando; brothers, Brian Whitton, Phil Whitton and Kevin Whitton; and sister, Sharon Cooper, all of New York.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth M. Denzinger; and father, William L. Whitton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Greg Whitton Memorial Fund, Irrevocable Gift Trust, in care of any Seacoast National Bank, Vero Beach.

The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 6 p.m., Oct. 16, at the Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home, with a memorial service to follow at 6 p.m., with the Rev. M. Anne Godbold of Roseland United Methodist Church officiating.
