College Board recognizes 44 AP scholars from Saint Edward’s School

VERO BEACH — The College Board has recognized forty-four Saint Edward’s students and recent graduates for their achievements in the Advanced Placement (AP) Program.

The AP Program offers several levels of awards to high school students based on their cumulative body of work and the degree of their success in college-level courses and exams. All of the students listed below are from Vero Beach except where otherwise noted.

Four members of the Saint Edward’s class of 2012 were granted the highest level of recognition as AP National Scholars: Sasha Benincasa, Paul Colella, Ethan Klein (Fort Pierce,) and Emily Salvador. These four took an average of ten exams each during their high school years and scored an average of 4.62 out of 5 with a score of 4 being the baseline for this level of recognition. As a group they scored 25 perfect fives on their AP exams, including mastery of College level Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Calculus, Economics, English Language, World History, and Chinese.

AP Scholars With Distinction included senior Eliot Jaffe and junior Michael Kaiser (Stuart), as well as class of 2012 graduates Kyle Aldrich, Ashley Brown, Austin Carroll, Daniel Dunson, Lauren Edwards, Hannah Hussamy, Abigail Mattern, Anmol Patel, Jens Pfeifle, August Restle, Eric Strickland (Palm City), and Leyla Tettamanti (Sewall’s Point).

These students have taken from 5 to 10 college level AP classes each and have scored an average of 4.09 out of 5 with a score of 3.5 being the baseline for this level of recognition. Saint Edward’s School student scores in this category included 25 fives and 43 fours. It is exceptionally rare to have a high school junior reach this level of award. Michael Kaiser of Stuart has distinguished himself by having undertaken six AP courses and completing exams in each by the end of his sophomore year at Saint Edward’s.

AP Scholars with Honor are: seniors Lolade Fadulu, Sarah Lambert, Chloe O’Haire, Caroline Petty, Anderson Proctor, and Adnan Shakoor (Port Saint Lucie,) as well as members of the class of 2012 Hayley Peed (Fort Pierce), Rhett Reisman, Hope Restle, and Amee Upadhyay. These students have taken an average of 4 exams each and have averaged scores of 3.25 or higher on all exams taken including 3 fives and 23 fours.

Earning AP Scholar designation are: seniors Jordan Canevari, Megan Cook, Cristian Mathes (Stuart), Sam Moore, Hayden Walsh (Wabasso,) and Bia Xue (China); juniors Bryan Brickman, Jacquelyn Carroll, Gabriela Ordonez, and Nicolette Puskar; and class of 2012 graduates Sadhana Chalasani (Port Saint Lucie), Lara Drondoski (Fort Pierce), Kaitlin Mulligan, Victoria Vilches, Jamari Williams, and Linxuan Yang (China). These students averaged scores of 3.44 and included 15 fives and 13 scores of 4.

Saint Edward’s offers a rigorous college-preparatory education that includes 19 Advanced Placement options as well as an Advanced Studies Program (ASP). All of the students who take AP courses take the exams, so the average results reported here are a reflection of the entire group of course takers. In 2012, there were 116 students enrolled in AP coursework at Saint Edward’s, and those students took a total of 226 exams.

The percentage of Saint Edward’s students scoring a three or better on the AP exams has risen every year for the last five years, and the proportion of AP test-takers at Saint Edward’s who score a three or better far outpaces the scores achieved in Florida and globally.
