VERO BEACH — A handful of members of The Source Ministries chose to be baptized by Pastor Jermey Gable, of King’s Baptist, at Humiston Park on Sunday.
“This is a day of celebration,” said Pastor Brad Butler, of The Source. “We’re here to celebrate new life.”
The last baptism The Source held was on Easter. They depend on transportation of churches they partner with because they have none of their own.
Around 30 attended the event.
“Anytime we turn around (King’s Baptist) is helping us,” said Brenda Sposato, of The Source.
Before the congregation headed to the beach for the baptism, Pastor Butler and Francesco Giovanni played their guitars and sang.
After a few songs Pastor Gable read from the Bible about what it meant to be baptized, adding a few instructions about what was about to happen.
“God’s timing is in the waves,” said Pastor Gable. Making sure that participants knew that it wouldn’t be a typical baptism where he could pray over them as it happened.
According to lifeguards on duty, they couldn’t recall many other baptisms happening at Humiston. Compared to other days, the waves were larger with a yellow flag flying at the lifeguard stand meaning moderate conditions, rip currents could form, and to use caution.
“I think it was a blessing,” said Timothy “Bama” Chenour. Chenour chose to wait to be freed before being baptized, not wanting a prison baptism. “I gave my life to Christ when I was imprisoned.”
