VERO BEACH — Think pink and come out to Indian River Mall from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, for How Sweet It Is, a pink event in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month designed to encourage awareness for women’s health topics.
Indian River Medical Center, a member of the Spirit of Women Hospital Network, will have booths with information on cancers that can affect women, women and heart health, and physical therapies offered for women to regain their physical strength after any kind of surgery or ailment.
The event will prove to be a fun time, with the mall decked in pink, dessert and food sampling stations, vendors selling pink merchandise and providing mini-spa services, live Salsa and Tango Dance demonstrations, and a preview of SafeSpace’s ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ event.
The first 100 people to arrive will receive swag bags that will include an IRMC pink lunch tote and other mall offers. Participants can sample food and drink, and enter to win door prizes.
How Sweet It Is will include a preview of SafeSpace’s third annual men’s march ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’® campaign to bring awareness to sexual and domestic violence on the Treasure Coast. Don’t be surprised to see grown men doing a ‘practice walk’ in red high heels on the mall stage.
SafeSpace is a private non-profit organization that provides shelter for abused victims of all ages as well as counseling, educational and outreach programs for both the abuser and abused. SafeSpace provides a haven for abused victims and their children, from Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie counties, who have suffered physical assault from their partners and need to leave to ensure their personal safety.
John Walsh, host and creator of America’s Most Wanted, is the honorary chair for the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event that will be held at IRMC on Saturday, Oct. 27, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The walk will begin and end at the new Partners in Women’s Health building, 1050 37th Place.
Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the OB/GYN physician group members and staff, tour the new office, and enjoy light refreshments at the conclusion of the walk.
