John R. Poeppelmeyer, 83, died Sept. 16, 2012, at VNA/Hospice House in Vero Beach.
He was born in Rockford, Ill., and lived in Vero Beach for 15 years, coming from Gahanna, Ohio.
Before retirement, he was an employee in public relations for the electric company in Columbus, Ohio, and was the sports information director for Capital University in Columbus.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Katherine Poeppelmeyer, of Vero Beach; sons, Darrell R. Poeppelmeyer, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Colen Poeppelmeyer and Jason Poeppelmeyer, both of Columbus; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandchild.
