Helen B. Potter, 91, died Sept. 14, 2012, in VNA/Hospice House in Vero Beach.
She was born in Seven Mile, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach for more than 30 years.
She was a graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and taught music in Detroit public schools from 1943 to 1947.
She was the first woman to serve as chairman of the board of the Pennsylvania Affiliate of the American Heart Association.
She was a member of the Community Church of Vero Beach and past president of its Women’s Fellowship and she sang in the choir for more than 30 years.
Survivors include her sons, J. William Potter Jr., of Honolulu and Thomas B. Potter, of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Virginia Mead, of Carbondale, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; and sister, Mary Cope.
