Neighborhood spat ends with bullet in chest

VERO BEACH — A day-long dispute in which Vero Police carted away a baseball bat but no alleged criminals ended Sunday evening with a Vero Beach man in critical condition at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center after he was shot in the chest.

Police arrested 33-year-old Jeffery Reynolds at his home on 11th Court on attempted murder charges.

According to reports, police were initially called to the 2600 block of 11th Court at 2:30 p.m. Sunday for a disturbance between people at 2665 and 2666 11th Court.

Police reports say Reynolds, who had many scuffs and abrasions after apparently being attacked by several people, had threatened to burn down his neighbor’s home. Less than eight hours later, police were called back after learning that Daniel Negron, 34, of 14th Avenue had been shot in the chest.

Witnesses told police that the problems between the neighbors had actually first begun much earlier in the day on 21st Street and then spilled into the street at their homes at 2:30 on 11th Court.

Witnesses say that at 10:01 p.m. Reynolds walked out of his house, took a few steps on his porch and raised the gun firing it across the street hitting Negron.
