K-9 unit tracks and apprehends burglary suspect in Sebastian

SEBASTIAN — Cynthia Delstanches awoke around 4:45 a.m. to find her home burglarized and an unknown pit-bull in her living room after hearing her sliding glass door opening. According to the Sebastian Police department, she was the victim of a burglary.

Her laptop and kid’s Xbox was missing.

While officers were investigating the scene they received another call about a burglary in progress just down the street. They were given a description of the suspect which was trying to make entry.

The suspect made eye contact with the owner and fled, according to police.

Officers set up a perimeter and awaited the K-9 unit to track the suspect. The canine was able to track the suspect into a wooded area where he had buried himself under the brush of trees and palms.

The officer gave him several commands to exit his hiding place but he did not comply.

Kwamane Spear, of Sebastian, 22, was identified by the victim of the burglary where he was attempting to gain entry.

Spear was arrested and transported to Sebastian River Medical Center to be treated.

He will be charged with three counts of Felony Burglary of an Occupied Structure, Felony Grand Theft and Criminal Mischief.
