INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The new school year is a time of excitement at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County. Many new faces are seen around the Clubs, ranging from our youngest six year old members all the way up to our graduating seniors.
Our renowned programs have begun their rotation, and our volunteers who spent their summers away begin to trickle back into the Clubs again.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County, one each in Vero Beach, Sebastian, and Fellsmere, are all accepting applications to fill their last remaining membership slots, and students aged 6-18 are encouraged to apply.
The Clubs are open each school day from 2:30-6:30 p.m., and all day on school breaks and teacher workdays. Thanks to our partnership with the Indian River County School District, bus transportation is available from most schools to the Clubs.
Membership in the Boys & Girls Clubs provides students with the tools they need to succeed both in school and in life.
Not your typical “after-school program,” the Clubs focus on six key areas that promote and enhance the development of youth, including Education and Career Development; Character and Leadership Development; Community Service; Health and Life Skills; Sports, Fitness and Recreation; and the Arts.
We offer specific programs that focus on each key area, and work hand in hand with each school to ensure members are mastering the lessons being taught.
Each state-of-the-art Club includes education centers with computers, art rooms, game rooms, teen centers and multipurpose areas. The Clubs also have outdoor space for games, sports, and other activities.
Guest speakers and field trips are regular occurrences, and members have the opportunity to participate in the Keystone and Torch Clubs, National Fine Arts program, serve as volunteers at community events, and more.
During the last school year, 100% of members participated in academic enrichment activities while attending the Club each day, 99% were promoted to the next grade level, 97% maintained or improved their school attendance, 96% showed improvement on school behavioral evaluations, and 81% successfully completed their homework before leaving the Club.
Membership in one of our Clubs is truly an investment in your child’s future. Monthly membership fees are affordable for all families, and multi-child discounts and scholarships are available for those with demonstrated need.
For more information about membership and fees, please contact the Vero Club at 299-7494; the Sebastian Club at 388-4944, or the Fellsmere Club at 571-0810. Space is limited at all three Clubs, and will fill to capacity quickly.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County, a United Way and Children’s Services Advisory Committee agency, provides quality programs that develop citizenship, leadership, and character to kids aged 6-18.
Our Mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
