Harry James Bolwell, 87, died Sept. 3, 2012, in Cleveland Clinic Hospital.
He was born in Kearny, N.J., and lived in Vero Beach.
He was a decorated veteran of the Army Air Forces in World War II, serving in Italy.
He graduated from the University of Vermont.
He was a nuclear engineer and became general manager of combustion engineering in Chattanooga, Tenn.
In 1961, he joined Midland Ross Corp., initially in Toledo, Ohio, and later in Cleveland and became chairman and chief executive officer from 1970 to 1986.
During that time, he also became chairman of the board of trustees of University Hospitals of Cleveland.
In 1986, the Bolwell Building for Ambulatory Care at University Hospitals was dedicated to him.
He continued to have an interest in health care and in 1991 became chief executive officer of New York Columbian Presbyterian Hospital.
In the last decade, he served as chairman of the Indian River Hospital District of Vero Beach.
He was an emeritus board of trustee member of Case Western Reserve University and the University of Vermont.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Weber Bolwell, of Vero Beach; son, Brian J. Bolwell, MD, of Novelty, Ohio; daughter, Suzanne C. Barbar, of Belmont, Mass.; stepsons, Glenn, Lee, John and Tex Weber; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Suzanne R. Bolwell.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Sept. 7 in St. Hubert’s Episcopal Church, Kirtland Hills, Ohio.
A family interment service was held in Lake View Cemetery.
