Ernest Califano, 91, died Aug. 27, 2012, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.
He was born in Tarrytown, N.Y., and lived in Vero Beach for 10 years, coming from Hutchinson Island.
He was a Navy veteran and a survivor of a shipwreck off the coast of Newfoundland in 1942.
He was a member of American Legion Post 39 and the Disabled Veterans Association.
Survivors include his sisters, Frances Caniano, of Vero Beach and Emilia Del Franco, of Copper City; and longtime companion, Carmella “Millie” Aspromonte.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Anthony and Ralph Califano; and wife, Louise Califano.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Sept. 3 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
Inurnment will be at a later date in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, N.J.
Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory in Vero Beach.
