At 12:51 p.m., the National Weather Service Doppler radar showed an area of persistent heavy rainfall across eastern Indian River County.

Radar estimates and surface observations indicate rainfall amounts up to 3 to 5 inches have occurred over eastern Indian River County since midnight. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 to 4 inches may occur before the rain tapers off.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flooding to occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include Fellsmere, Gifford, Indian River Shores, Sebastian, Vero Beach, Wabasso, Winter Beach and Vero Lake Estates.

Do not attempt to cross bridges, dips, or other low spots if water covers the roadway. Never try to cross a flowing stream, even a small one, on foot or in a vehicle.

Report flooding to the nearest law enforcement agency so that they may take appropriate action to close flooded roadways. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

All drivers are cautioned against attempting to travel throughout the city until the water from Tropical Storm Isaac subsides. Multiple roadways between the Indian River and US 1 and other low lying areas are flooded and some motorists have been stranded.
