Young Professionals celebrate successful fundraising for local nonprofits

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The Future Leaders Professional Advisory Council of the Indian River Community Foundation met July 18 at Northern Trust to celebrate the conclusion of the fundraising effort to establish the Future Leaders Professional Advisory Council Fund.

Organized under the auspices of the Indian River Community Foundation, the Future Leaders Professional Advisory Council, includes young attorneys, estate and financial planners, accountants, investment advisors and other professionals who share a common interest in understanding effective ways to help clients execute philanthropic plans.

Rusty Cappelen, a local financial advisor, chairs the Council. He thought it would be appropriate for members to personally experience the services of the Indian River Community Foundation by establishing their own designated fund.

“The purpose is to help our members understand how the Indian River Community Foundation operates so that they can better serve their clients’ philanthropic interests,” Cappelen said. “We will be learning through this process and at the same time providing opportunities to help Indian River County youth. It is a win-win for all involved.”

The members of the Future Leaders Council have contributed nearly $5,000 to start the new fund.

They will now work with staff at the Indian River Community Foundation to determine specific criteria and outcomes that will drive a competitive grant process available to all youth development organizations serving Indian River County.

“This is a typical process we use with donors who are interested in a specific field or cause, but who don’t have a specific non-profit organization in mind to support,” said Kerry Bartlett, Executive Director of the Indian River Community Foundation. “These donors can establish a field-of-interest fund, like the one set-up by the Future Leaders Council, and then set certain goals they want achieved through the fund.”

Bartlett said the process can be established in about a month, and sometimes more quickly, depending on how complicated the goals are.

The Future Leaders Council anticipates issuing a request for proposals for the new fund sometime n September.
