Joseph D. Richard, 81, died Aug. 7, 2012, at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
He was born in Revere, Mass., and lived in Vero Beach for 29 years, coming from McLean, Va.
He served in the Air Force.
Before retirement, he worked as a cryptographer for more than 25 years.
He volunteered as a teacher for the Brevard Association of the Blind for 12 years.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Linda Richard.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Jones and Millie Rock.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Aug. 11 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
Interment will follow Aug. 13 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
