Back to School event to benefit the Education Foundation

VERO BEACH — The Education Foundation of Indian River County is pleased to be named a beneficiary of the upcoming Back to School event at the Vero Beach Outlets.

This special event will be held on Saturday, August 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Back to School event will feature drawings, giveaways, and a chance to win a grand prize. Many Back-to-School savings will be featured throughout the Vero Beach Outlet.

In an effort to support the community, the Vero Beach Outlets will be conducting a school supply drive to support the schools of Indian River County.

The public is encouraged to visit the Vero Beach Outlets for great savings and to donate one of the following items: dry erase markers, glue sticks, copy paper, 1 and 2 inch binders, loose leaf paper (wide rule), pencils, pens, erasers, composition books, colored pencils, and index cards.

In addition, donations of solid collared shirts, shorts, and belts in large and small sizes are needed for children in need.

Now, more than ever, a cash contribution will make a difference. With a depressed economy, the need to help students from poverty level homes is on the rise.

More than 58% of school age students in Indian River County are economically disadvantaged. This means students come from homes earning less than $26,000 annually.

With increased costs of fuel, food, and housing, little excess income is available to cover the basic necessities like school supplies.

The Education Foundation serves as the fundraising arm of the School District of Indian River County. The Foundation is proud to partner with the community to raise dollars to help students in need.

The Education Foundation operates separately from the school district.

The Education Foundation of Indian River County’s mission is to enrich and enhance educational opportunities for all students and teachers, in both public and private schools, through effective fundraising and efficient allocation of resources.

The Foundation funds and administers the Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair Program, the School Supply Fund, the Sneaker Exchange, Vision for Reading, the Great Ideas! Grants Program, and Teacher Development Initiatives.
