Charles Buddy Bayes Jr., 65, died Aug. 4, 2012, at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.
He was born in Riverside, Calif., and lived in Vero Beach for 10 years, coming from Fort Myers.
He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.
While in Vietnam, his PBR river patrol boat was destroyed by enemy fire and he received permanent service related injuries.
He received the Purple Heart for his sacrifice.
He was a member of Assembly of God church.
Survivors include his son, Charles A. Bayes, of Vero Beach; sisters Susan Heck, of Bonita Springs, Rebecca McCaffey, of Springfield, Mo., and Cindy Combs, of Antioch, Calif.; brothers, John Bayes, of Springfield and David Bayes, of St. Petersburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Victory Center, 6200 20th St. Suite 160, Vero Beach, FL 32966.
Private family services will be held.
