Robert Max Hesslein, 80, Vero Beach

Robert Max Hesslein, 80, died July 24, 2012, at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.

He was born in Red Bank, N.J., and lived in Vero Beach since 1994, coming from Long Branch, N.J., and Eatontown, N.J.

Before retirement, he worked for the Monogram Co. for 37 years.

He also was employed by Dodgertown Golf Course in Vero Beach and the Monmouth County Park System at Shark River Golf Course as a ranger.

He also owned and operated Bob’s Luncheonette in Lavallette, N.J.

He was a Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Stribling DD867, from 1951 to 1954.

He received six campaign ribbons and a letter of commendation from the captain during a collision in the mid-Atlantic during refueling in heavy seas.

He was a member of the Elberon Engine Co. 4 of the Long Branch Fire Department and life member of the Firemen’s Association.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Flaherty Hesslein, of Vero Beach; sons, Robert, of Red Bank and Stephen, of Tinton Falls, N.J.; daughter, Judi Ann Camp, of Tinton Falls; brother, Nathan Hesslein, of Toms River, N.J.; sister, Joyce Looney, of May Wood, N.J.; stepdaughters, Marie Martins, of Vernon, N.J., Gina Pennington, of Butler, N.J., Eileen Corallo, of Mahwah, N.J., and Virginia Gibbons, of Bloomingdale, N.J.; and five grandchildren.

No local services are planned at this time.

Arrangements are by Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.
