VERO BEACH — While most orchestras are relaxing, the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra continues their searing Summer Series with a performance of “Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Symphony” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2365 Pine Ave. in Vero Beach.
While the second half of the program is devoted to Rachmaninoff’s passionate Symphony No. 2, young Will Connell and his trombone are featured earlier in the technically demanding Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra by Henri Tomasi.
Concert-goers will also delight in the Overture to the Marriage of Figaro, the musical introduction to the Mozart opera of the same name, made famous in its own right as a popular concert piece.
$20 advance tickets are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at several convenient ticket outlets, including Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches) and Madison Avenue Consignments.
Tickets at the door are an additional $5. Students 18 years of age and under will be admitted free.
Discounted tickets are available through the SCSO Symphony for Everyone program. See details at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or call toll free (855) 252-7276 for more information.
Energetic Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins, doesn’t stop the music in the summer time.
“We are taking our cue from the music lovers who make up our audience. They have told us how much they love the year-round concert schedule of the Space Coast Symphony. And since kids 18 and under are always free, summertime boredom can become summertime enrichment,” said Collins.
“Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Symphony” is the third of four concerts scheduled for the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra’s 2012 Summer Series. “Call of the Champions: Music of the Olympics” in August will round out the warm weather offerings.
