Donald Ray James, 78, Vero Beach

Donald Ray James, 78, died July 8, 2012, at home.

He was born in Heilman, Ind., and lived in Fort Pierce since 1978, coming from Boonville, Ind., before moving to Vero Beach 10 years ago.

Before retirement, he worked for Shelton Construction in Indian River County. He was of the Baptist faith.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War and later in the Air Force.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Betty Jean Blake James, of Vero Beach; sons, Alan James, of Vero Beach and Craig James, of Boonville, Ind.; daughter, Rhonda Stone Vollman, of Boonville, Ind.; brothers, Charlie James, Ronnie James and Billy Jo James, all of Dale, Ind., and Jerry James, of Indianapolis; sisters, Betty Rhodes, of Dale, Gail Robertson, of Texas and Joyce Lee, of Pebble Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Services and interment will be in Indiana at a later date.

Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory Vero Beach.
