Charles Ernest Roberts Jr., 89, Vero Beach

Charles Ernest Roberts Jr., 89, died June 29, 2012, at the VNA/Hospice House.

He was born in Worcester, Mass., and lived in Vero Beach for 34 years, coming from Fort Lauderdale.

While living in Massachusetts, he worked for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad.

After moving to Florida, he worked in sales until his retirement.

He served in the Marines during World War II in the South Pacific.

He and his wife, Lorraine, attended more than 20 nationwide reunions of the 4th Amphibious Tractor Battalion.

He attended St. Helen Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lorraine; sons, Charles E. Robert III, of Vero Beach, William A. Roberts, of Homestead and Peter M. Roberts, of Vero Beach; daughters, Sandra L. Roberts, of Davie and Amy R. Klemann, of Melbourne Beach; brother, Frank Roberts, of Millbury, Mass.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marion, Virginia, Lauraine, Doris and Dorothy.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. July 6 at St. Helen Catholic Church.

Inurnment will be in South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth.
