Sebastian Police nab resident accused of passing fake $20s

SEBASTIAN — The Sebastian Police Department has arrested a man accused of passing counterfeit bills at various businesses.

Police say the man, identified as 30-year-old Harold J. Kupchek, passed counterfeit $20 bills at various Sebastian businesses and financial institutions.

One business, which was not identified, notified authorities of the fake bill and passed along a description matching Kupchek and video surveillance.

At 4 a.m. Tuesday, Sebastian officers discovered Kupchek, sleeping in a car. Upon investigating, officers discovered oxycodone and drug paraphernalia.

Kupchek told investigators that he had made and passed the fake $20 bills.

He faces five felony charges of uttering forged/counterfeit bills, a felony count of controlled substance possession, and a misdemeanor charge of drug paraphernalia possession.
