Richard E. Hoover, 83, Vero Beach

Richard E. Hoover, 83, died June 27, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Canton, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach to 20 years, coming from of Canton.

He attended Kent State University before joining the Navy during World War II.

Before retirement, he was the owner/operator of Stark Ceramics in Canton for 42 years and served as president of the American Brick and Tile Association for five years.

He was a lifelong member of the Shady Hollow Country Club in Massillon, Ohio, which was designed by his grandfather.

He played trombone with the Mel Monaco Rhythmers and Harbor Lights Big Band in Vero Beach.

In his early years, he was on stage with Don Rickles and was invited to play with the Jimmy Dorsey Band.

Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Barbara M. Hoover; sons, Richard Hoover, of Miami, Morgan Hoover, of Massillon and James Hoover, of North Canton, Ohio; daughter, Holly Hoover Fellows, of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Mary Paine, of Port St. Lucie; stepsons, Scott Robinson, of Pompano Beach and Mark Robinson, of Amherst, Mass.; and five stepgrandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. July 2 followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce.

Entombment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce.
