James John Neff Young, 89, died June 28, 2012, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.
He was born in Vandergrift, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach for 27 years ago, coming from Erie, Pa.
Before retirement, he taught English in junior and senior high in Harbor Creek, Pa., and became a principal of the junior high school.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
He received his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and administration certificate from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Erie and a member of the Port St. Lucie Community Band.
He volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth Young, of Vero Beach; and brother, Robert Young, of Mason, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his son, Curt Young; daughter, Laurel Young; sisters, Dorothy Coleman, Jane Coleman and Susan Fulton; and brother, Frank L. Young II.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. July 6 at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery in Erie.
