INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — It had been a busy time for Alfredo Arce, Sr. and Alicia Espinoza de Arce since they were first accepted into Indian River Habitat for Humanity’s program.
On a sunny spring day, the Arce’s journey to homeownership ended with the dedication ceremony in Habitat’s Fellsmere neighborhood Grace Meadows after all the hours of sweat equity and the many classes and other requirements had been successfully completed.
As volunteers, Habitat staff, Orchid supporters, sponsors, and other friends watched, family members stood on the porch of the couple’s new home. Alfredo poised to cut the red ribbon that rippled across the front door.
Standing beside them, sharing the moment with equal pride, was Rob Tench, General Manager of the Orchid Golf and Beach Club. The Club had provided not only financial sponsorship of the Arce home, but also volunteer sponsorship, in the form of manpower on the job site, and a business partnership.
Following the ribbon-cutting, everyone gathered inside for refreshments and informal tours of the home.
Making the day even more meaningful for the family, the Arce’s son, Alfredo Jr., wife Maria, and brand new baby son, Jeriel, will soon have their own Habitat home, right next door.
Their wallraising ceremony was celebrated that very morning.
