John’s Island awards $500k to 34 Nonprofit Indian River County agencies

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The John’s Island Community Service League (JICSL) has awarded $500k to 34 nonprofit agencies in Indian River County for its 2011-2012 fiscal year.

Since 1980, JICSL has been raising funds for distribution to charitable agencies in Indian River County concerned with the health, education, and human services issues of women, children, and families in need.

Since 1995, the JICSL has awarded over $5.7 million in grants to these agencies. Scholarship support for post-secondary education is provided to qualified students of John’s Island employees with outstanding academic records.

Eighteen well-deserving, competent students received support this year.

The 34 agencies that received grants this year are: Alzheimer/Parkinson Association of Indian River County, Senior Resource Association, Visiting Nurse Association, Literacy Services of Indian River County, Mental Health Association, Substance Awareness Council, Suncoast Mental Health Center, “CASTLE” Exchange Club, Children’s Home Society, Guardians for New Futures, “Safe Space”, United for Families, Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County, Dasie Bridgewater Hope Center, Feed the Lambs Enrichment Program, Gifford Youth Activity Center, Salvation Army, Youth Guidance Mentoring & Activities Programs, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Indian River County Habitat for Humanity, Indian River State College Foundation, The Learning Alliance, Food Pantry of Indian River County, Harvest Food & Outreach Center, Treasure Coast Food Bank, Homeless Family Center, Samaritan Center, “The Source”, Treasure Coast Homeless Council of Indian River County, Childcare Resources of Indian River County, Education Foundation of Indian River County, Healthy Start Coalition of Indian River County, and Sun Up ARC (Abilities Resource Center).
