Kiwanis Club awards scholarships

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — On May 23, the Kiwanis Club of Vero-Treasure Coast awarded $8k in college scholarships to recent graduates of Indian River County schools.

“The most outstanding that Kiwanis has ever seen,” is how Kiwanis Scholarship Committee chair Al Sammartino described this group.

He explained that the committee had a difficult time making their final selections due to the high caliber of the applicants, most of whom had more than 400 hours of community service.

Below is a list of scholarship winners and their college choices and fields.

· Courtney Brawner – International Relations & Economics – Univ. of Florida

· Abigail Colley – Nursing – Indian River State College

· Venisha Derisse – Nursing – Florida International Univ.

· Jamie Jacks – Nursing – Indian River State College

· Kendall Lowendick – Nursing – Florida State Univ.

· Amanda Robbins – Political Science – George Washington Univ.

· Jennifer Stenback – Pre-Med – Univ. of South Florida

· Vanessa Velasquez – International Business & Marketing – Univ. Of Mississippi

· Madison Ware – Pre-Med – Univ. of South Florida

For nearly twenty years, the Kiwanis Club of Vero-Treasure Coast has awarded more than one hundred scholarships to deserving students.
