John James “Jack” Caulfield, 83, died June 17, 2012. He was born in New York City and lived in Vero Beach since 1988, coming from his birthplace.
He worked as a New York City Police Department detective; he was staff assistant to President Richard Nixon in 1969; he served as assistant director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in 1972.
He testified before the Senate Watergate Committee in 1973.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
He attended Wake Forest University, N.C., on a basketball scholarship, earning his bachelor’s degree.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Nancy Caulfield, of Vero Beach; sons, John Caulfield, of Virginia, Christopher Caulfield, of New York City and Richard Caulfield, of Georgia; sister, Frances Kelly, of Arizona; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be at noon June 21 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
