Mary Louise “Marylou” Young Curtis, Vero Beach

Mary Louise “Marylou” Young Curtis died June 7, 2012.

She was born in Aurora, Ill., and lived in Vero Beach, including 20 years in the Moorings.

She was living in Locust Valley, N.Y., when she sold her first fashion designs in 1965, and later owned and operated a woman’s apparel boutique, La Shack.

In later years, her designs were sold at Loggia in Vero Beach and at trunk shows in the homes of clientele.

She was a former New York fashion model and business impresario.

She was featured on the cover of “Money” magazine in 1977.

She attended St. Mary’s in New York and earned a bachelor of arts degree in English at Georgian Court College in New Jersey.

Survivors include her husband, Todd Porter Curtis; daughters, Caroline Page Curtis, Sandra Curtis and Malou Curtis; sons, Peter Curtis and Christopher Curtis; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Todd Porter Curtis Jr., in 1987.

A celebration of life will be from 4 to 7 p.m. June 16 at the Moorings Club with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.
