VERO BEACH — Senior Resource Association recently hosted the 2012 Florida Public Transportation Association (FPTA) Strategic Planning Session in Vero Beach on May 10 and 11.
The expected outcome of the session is to set overall strategic goals and priorities for FPTA, as well as a detailed plan to achieve them.
FPTA members, comprised of transportation officials from around the state, gathered in the beachside community to develop the framework of a working plan to improve the association’s branding, advocacy efforts, grassroots support, and collaboration with other organizations.
Additionally, the group also assessed membership assets, online resource tools, and staff needs. As part of the strategic planning process, the group will also develop a comprehensive communication plan.
Representatives from the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR), University of South Florida, facilitated the two-day workshop, which was held at Costa d’Este Beach Resort and Quail Valley River Club.
“We were thrilled that FPTA selected Vero Beach for its group meeting,” explained Karen Rose Deigl, President/CEO Senior Resource Association, GoLine River Transit.
“In addition to supporting our local economy, the FPTA officials represent over 20 potential visitors that will return to our community and support the local tourism industry in the future,” Diegl added.
The FPTA is a nonprofit association whose members include every major public transit agency in Florida, as well as interested citizens and businesses, and acts as a collective voice in promoting the recognition, use, and improvement of public transportation in the state of Florida.
Members of the FPTA employ tens of thousands of Floridians, transport about 300 million riders per year, and create billions of dollars per year in economic activity.
In addition to operating the county’s transit system, Senior Resource Association provides recreational, cultural, and educational programs for active older adults, assists seniors and their families in finding resources, and delivers quality, professional services that meet a senior’s individual needs.
The nonprofit organization is recognized as the lead agency in Indian River County for home and community based services for older adults.
