Merlvin Vanek, 93, Vero Beach

Merlvin Vanek, 93, died June 7, 2012, at Royal Care Assisted Living Facility in Fort Pierce.

He was born in Rice Lake, Wis., and lived in Vero Beach and Fort Pierce for 40 years, coming from Milwaukee, Wis.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 358 in White City, Elks Lodge 1774 in Vero Beach where he was the organist, the Ceska Opera Society in Haugen Wis., and a 77-year member of Western Fraternal Life Association (Bohemian Society) in Wisconsin.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran during World War II.

Before retirement, he worked in management for the Allis Chalmers Manufacturing in Milwaukee.

Survivors include his sister, Elaine Hearms, of Massa, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Vanek; and sister, Star Blanton.

Arrangements are by Aycock Funeral Home in Fort Pierce.
