Philip E. Cirou, 90, Sebastian

Philip E. Cirou, 90, died June 7, 2012, at his home in Sebastian.

He was a lifelong Floridian and lived in Sebastian for 28 years, coming from Fort Lauderdale.

He served in the Coast Guard during the World War II on a sub chaser in the North Atlantic and crossed the Arctic Circle, “Northern Domain of the Polar Bear,” twice.

He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, a life member of American Legion Post 189 Sebastian and one of the founders of the Holy Name Society of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ellen Cirou, of Sebastian; son, Mark Cirou; daughters, Michele Cirou and Catherine Libman; and brothers, Tommy Cirou, Corky Cirou, Frank Cirou.

Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 13 at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 2 p.m. June 13 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with Father John Morrissey, celebrant.

Military honors will be 3 p.m. June 13 at Sebastian Cemetery with the Sebastian Area Veterans’ Honor Guard.
