Evan MacKay wins fourth place at Intel International Science & Engineering Fair

VERO BEACH — The Education Foundation has announced that Evan MacKay of Vero Beach High School took fourth place at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair that was held in May in Pittsburgh, PA.

Evan received a $500 cash award for his project, “The Effects of Pheromones on Diaprepes Root Weevils,” in the Plant Sciences Division.

Evan was one of more than 1,500 young scientists who were chosen to compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

Participants were selected from 446 affiliate fairs in approximately 70 countries, regions and territories.

Evan received his bid to the International Science & Engineering Fair on January 26, 2012, from the Indian River Regional Science & Engineering Fair (IRRSEF) that was hosted by the Education Foundation of Indian River County in partnership with the School District of Indian River County.

The Education Foundation also wants to send out a special thank you to the major sponsors of the IRRSEF who supported Evan’s bid to the international fair: The George E. Warren Corporation, Piper Aircraft Corporation, Quail Valley Charities, Syngenta, and Wells Fargo.
