Welcome Wagon Club of Sebastian distributes donations and scholarships

SEBASTIAN — Presentation of scholarships and donations to local charities were made at the regular monthly luncheon meeting of the Original Welcome Wagon Club of Sebastian on May 8.

President Peggy Andrie awarded three $1,000 scholarships to Sebastian River High School seniors. Courtney Prickette, Brooke Evans, and Sorca Jordan were the recipients.

She presented $500 donations to April Hargett, Volunteer Ambulance Squad; Art Ciasce, SafeSpace; Jinny Earnshaw, Ecumenical Food Pantry, and D. Lorne Coyle, Homeless Family Center.

These funds were raised during 2011-12 from its generous members participating in a purse exchange, Christmas baskets, a “Make-Bake-and Grow” sale, as well as “Share-and-Care”. The members also participated in an “angel tree” gift program for the Salvation Army, donations to the Lord’s Table and SafeSpace during December.

The club’s major fundraising event was the Luncheon and Fashion Show on March 24 at the Elks Lodge in Sebastian attended by more than 170 women.

Community support was provided by Aunt Louise’s, Ay! Jalisco, Beauty by the Beach, Captain Hiram’s, Debbie’s Hair Pampering, First Presbyterian Church Thrift Shop, Giuseppe’s Pizzeria, Headlines, Inlet Wines, Maddy Jaschek, Mulligan’s, Oceanview Optical, The Red Rooster Cafe, Ruby Tuesday, Sebastian Humane Society Thrift Shop, Shear Tranquility, Sherry’s Florist, Southern Sisters, Stone Creek Pizza, Vic’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant, VNA Hidden Treasures in Sebastian, and Woody’s.
