The Source receives $50k grant award to help stop hunger

VERO BEACH —  The Source is proud to be the sole recipient of a $50k grant award from the John’s Island Foundation.

The grant will be used to purchase kitchen equipment and to renovate the food pantry, including installation of a walk-in cooler. The result will be improved food preparation for the 40,000+ meals served annually, as well as the ability to offer a greater selection of fresh foods.

Studies show that over 24,000 Indian River County residents struggle every day to put food on the table.

“With limited resources, families are often forced to choose low-cost, low-nutrient food options. With these kitchen and pantry renovations, The Source will have the ability to receive, store, prepare, and serve a more abundant selection of fresh produce, meats, and dairy.

Our needy neighbors will now have many healthy options when they visit our food pantry. We are deeply grateful to John’s Island Foundation for making this possible,” said Sonya Morrison, executive director of The Source.

The Source is a Christian outreach ministry for homeless individuals and families at-risk. The doors of The Source are open six days a week to provide people in need with nourishment for the body and soul.

The ministry offers daily hot meals, an emergency food pantry, clothing, showers, counseling, support groups, and a host of other services.
