VERO BEACH – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s South Florida Ecological Services Office is pleased to announce the 13 winners of our 2012 Treasure Coast Students Endangered Species Calendar Art Contest.
They are:
· Overall Grand Prize Winner – Jordan Spiller, Jensen Beach High School (Key Deer)
· 1st Grade – Mac Johnson, Saint Edward’s School, Vero Beach (Florida Scrub-Jay)
· 2nd Grade – Lily Strauss, Saint Edward’s School, Vero Beach (West Indian Manatees)
· 3rd Grade – Adam Goodson, Redeemer Lutheran School, Stuart (Green Sea Turtle)
· 4th Grade – Kaylee Bean, Village Green Environmental Studies School, Port St. Lucie (Wood Storks)
· 5th Grade – Will Johnson, Saint Eward’s School, Vero Beach (Florida Scrub-Jay)
· 6th Grade – Conor O’Haire, Saint Edward’s School, Vero Beach (American Crocodile)
· 7th Grade – Maya Lindseth, Sebastian Charter Jr. High School (Key Largo Cotton Mouse)
· 8th Grade – Autumn Meadows, Saint Edward’s Middle School, Vero Beach (Piping Plover)
· 9th Grade – Savannah Taflinger, Sebastian River High School (Eastern Indigo Snake)
· 10th Grade – Johanna Duncan, Jensen Beach High School (West Indian Manatees)
· 11th Grade – Isaac Pedroza, Jensen Beach High School (Schaus Swallowtail Butterfly)
· 12th Grade – Helen Knapp, Jensen Beach High School (Fin Whale)
Each winner’s artwork will represent a month on our 2013 Endangered Species Day Calendar. They’ll receive a $100 U.S. savings bond.
The grand prize winner’s artwork will grace the cover of the calendar. In addition, we’ll present Jordan with a framed version of her artwork and her school a $150 gift card for Biology, Science and/or Art supplies.
Over 400 entries were submitted from students throughout Indian River, Martin, and St. Lucie Counties.
Our 2013 endangered species calendar featuring the winning entries should be published by October, 2012.
