Duane Austin Courter, 79, Vero Beach

Duane Austin Courter, 79, died May 17, 2012, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

He was born in Knoxville, Ill., and lived in Vero Beach for 26 years.

He was an instructor of physics at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and spent 21 years with RCA.

He retired from General Electric as an electrical engineer working in government contracts all over the world.

He was a Navy veteran serving during the Korean War.

He was a graduate of Western Illinois University, earning a bachelor of science degree in physics and education with a minor in math.

He earned his master’s of science degree in physics with a minor in education from the University of Nebraska.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 749, Knoxville for 54 years.

Survivors include his nephews, Kay Courter of Troy, Ill., Steve Courter of Virginia Beach, Va., Dean Courter of Hampton, Va. and Keith Hinman of Ankeny, Iowa; and niece, Diana Glosser of Charleston, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen Courter and Kay Courter; and sister, Betty Courter.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of one’s choice.

There will be no services.
