McKee Botanical Garden seeking entries for Waterlily Photo Contest

VERO BEACH — Calling all shutterbugs: McKee Botanical Garden is currently seeking entries for its third annual Waterlily Photo Contest.

Amateur and experienced photographers alike are encouraged to submit their finest examples of McKee’s most celebrated subject, the waterlily.

Submissions are being accepted now through June 13 and will be showcased for judging at McKee’s eighth annual Waterlily Celebration on June 16.

Entries must be of waterlilies photographed at McKee in 2011 or 2012 with film or digital cameras. Photos must measure 8” x 10” and be mounted on foamboard or other rigid board and matted. Size, including matting material, must be 11” x 14”.

Each entry must contain one photo labeled on back with the category, contestant name, address, and phone number plus a completed entry form in order to be valid.

Participants may submit one photo in each of three categories: Color, Black and White, and Manipulated.

Photos will be displayed at McKee’s Waterlily Celebration on June 16 from 9 a.m. to Noon in the Hall of Giants. One winner will be chosen from each of the three categories, and visitors attending the event will be able to cast their own vote for a “People’s Choice” award winner.

All winners will receive an annual family membership to McKee valued at $50.

“The photo contest has quickly become a popular addition to our annual Waterlily Celebration,” stated McKee Executive Director Christine Hobart. “Attendees really enjoy seeing the creativity and perspective applied by each of the photographers as well as having the chance to choose their own favorite photo.”

McKee Botanical Garden’s waterlily collection is one of the largest in Florida and includes over 100 varieties of more than 200 plants. Among those featured at the Waterlily Celebration will be favorites such as the giant Victoria Amazonica, as well as several new hybrid and award-winning varieties.

Additionally, there will be painting by local artists, information on waterlily potting and replanting, an aquatic plant and koi sale, and more.

The eighth annual Waterlily Celebration is sponsored by the “AT&T Real Yellow Pages.”

Summer admission rates apply.
